Root cause therapy

Root cause therapy is a very deep and transformative form of therapy that aims to address the root causes of one’s limiting beliefs, blocks, patterns, negative behaviors and symptoms, allowing them to finally disappear for good. Since the resolution of issues in this therapy involves mental, emotional, physical, energetic and spiritual levels, it offers a complete and comprehensive experience, which goes beyond short-term change or temporary relief, but solves the root causes of problems. This way the therapy often allows to find a solution to life-long patterns that have not been resolved with other modalities or forms of therapy.

What makes root cause therapy unique is that it addresses all layers of our being at the same time, which creates possibility for the ultimate resolution of traumas and issues, facilitating a lasting state change and expansion of consciousness. Most therapies only work on one level – for example talk therapy works mostly with the conscious mind, somatic therapies mainly concentrate on the body, energy healing works with the energetic body. Root cause therapy brings it all together, involving the mind (conscious, subconscious and unconscious), emotional, physical and spiritual (higher self) levels. That’s what makes it so powerful!

The subconscious mind and the unconscious (body) are the levels of awareness where deeply ingrained patterns, beliefs, and emotional wounds reside. Traditional approaches that only work on the conscious mind—like logic or willpower—are limited because they do not address the underlying emotional and belief systems programmed into the subconscious and body. Since life-long problems are typically rooted in deep emotional and physiological layers, conscious efforts often fail to create lasting change. Root cause therapy, on the other hand, works with all the levels of the mind as well as the client’s higher self who guides the process, and rewrites the subconscious through addressing limiting beliefs.

What are limiting beliefs and how are they formed?

Limiting beliefs are any type of beliefs that are not supportive to us, that prevent us from reaching our full potential or living a fulfilling life, eg “I am not enough”, “I’m not worthy of love”, “I have to suffer”, “life is hard”, “money only comes with hard work”, “all men cheat”, etc. These beliefs are mostly deep in the subconscious, meaning we are not consciously aware of them.

Limiting beliefs are a defense mechanism designed to protect us from pain and trauma and various “threats” such as loss of control, condemnation, rejection, insecurity, abandonment, failure (to avoid what happened either in our childhood or to our ancestors). Limiting beliefs lead to inaction and self-sabotage and keep us in our comfort zone. Because the ego interprets the unknown as bad, it is the only way for the ego to provide us with a sense of security and save us from pain and trauma. Limiting beliefs are formed during our own life (mostly childhood experiences) or passed down to us by ancestors in the following way:

We or an ancestor experienced trauma or were influenced by society to behave in a certain way according to what was taught at the time.
The ancestors wanted to spare their children from the same trauma and pain, and taught these beliefs to the children, who taught their children, etc.
These programmed beliefs (often related to security, external approval, and financial stability) are passed down through generations until someone breaks the cycle and changes these beliefs.

Why is it so important to include the subconscious mind and the unconscious (body)?

1. Deep-seated beliefs lie in the subconscious

The subconscious mind holds core beliefs and emotional responses that often stem from early childhood experiences or even ancestral trauma. These beliefs shape how we perceive ourselves and the world, often operating below our conscious awareness. By addressing these beliefs at their source, root cause therapy can help shift long-held patterns that drive unwanted behaviors or emotional reactions.

2. Unprocessed trauma is hidden in the unconscious (body)

The body, or what is often referred to as the unconscious mind, stores unprocessed trauma and emotional memories. These somatic imprints, often held in muscle tension, posture, or even chronic pain, are the body’s way of holding on to unresolved emotions. Working through the body allows us to access, process and release these stored traumas, which can be a critical component in long-term healing and breaking the cycle.

3. Subconscious reprogramming is needed for lasting change

Once the root causes are uncovered, the subconscious can be reprogrammed with healthier beliefs, emotional responses, and new ways of being. Similarly, the body can release the trauma it has been holding, which creates a profound shift that is integrated at a physiological level. Resolving limiting beliefs and negative patterns

One of the main goals of a root cause therapy session is to free yourself from the chains of your past that have limited and hindered your growth until now. Root cause therapy helps to identify and change traumatic experiences from the past and feel the emotions from the events so that the unconscious programs that have created negative habits, behavior patterns and limiting beliefs can dissolve for good. Root cause therapy therefore allows you to access and realize your potential, align with your heart and begin to enjoy your life more.

Healing past wounds and traumas

Root cause therapy is a form of guided self-healing that helps you find and heal internal wounds and traumas that have caused fear, anxiety, guilt, shame, anger, sadness and other unpleasant emotions. The root cause therapy session is guided by the client’s higher self, so the session draws on your own inner wisdom and healing abilities that we all have. Since the work takes place simultaneously on all levels (conscious and unconscious mind, body, emotional, spiritual level), it enables the issues to be resolved permanently.

Emotional release and emotional intelligence

Through timeline regression, which is part of the root cause therapy process, you can release emotions trapped in the body and subconscious in a safe and held space. A root cause therapy session gives you the ability to make note of feelings and emotions in your body, to distinguish and name them, to feel and understand their connections with events that have taken place in your life. This skill will be transferred from the session to your life, and in addition to being able to cope better with your own emotions, your empathy and social skills will also evolve.

Deeper understanding and connection with self

Root cause therapy helps you shed masks, inauthentic layers and everything that isn’t really you to reveal the magical, magnetic, free and radiant version of you that you really have always been underneath it all. Since the facilitator mediates communication with your higher self during the session, your contact with your higher self will strengthen in the course of the sessions. It also allows you to better separate yourself from your thoughts and feelings, ego, programming and other layers that might be active in everyday life, and start creating your life from the level of your higher self.

Expansion of consciousness

The level of consciousness is an energetic level where we are currently vibrating according to our state. Our level of consciousness dictates how we see the world, what we consider possible, what we manifest in our lives and how we think/feel/behave – like a radio, where by turning to a certain frequency we receive information that comes from that frequency. In other words, our reality actually corresponds to our level of consciousness. A root cause therapy session makes your subconscious, ordinary consciousness and superconscious cooperate with each other, and through resolving limitations at the root level, it purifies the subconscious, which helps you raise your level of consciousness towards love, joy and peace.

Understanding and integrating shadow aspects

The shadow refers to the qualities in humanity and ourselves that we think are not worthy of love – because of the pain and shame we have either experienced or witnessed. We have separated these aspects from ourselves and hidden them in our “shadow”. This fragmentation creates low self-esteem at the unconscious level. Root cause therapy is a wonderful way to look at your shadow with care and ease and integrate shadow aspects. In this way, we can also take back our gifts and positive qualities. Shadow work helps us to greater wholeness and thereby helps us feel free to be ourselves and frees up resources for bigger creations and bigger dreams.

Root cause therapy helps you discover your hidden potential, talents and resources that have been suppressed and unused. What does the session include?

Muscle testing

Muscle testing is a method belonging to the field of kinesiology, which can be broadly understood as energy testing, showing how energy moves in the body. The principle of muscle testing is that if something is true or in line with the unconscious mind/ body consciousness, the person’s muscle reaction is strong. When something is wrong or out of alignment, the muscles react by weakening. So in a way, muscle testing is like a lie detector test, helping to distinguish the truth from what we think is the truth, a way to bypass the constructs of the egoic mind.

Set structure + testing sheet

A root cause therapy session has a set structure that we follow every time. In each session, we use a so-called testing sheet, which allows us to identify existing limiting beliefs and what needs attention. First, we will look into your state and general condition, and then we will communicate with your unconscious mind through muscle testing, identifying limiting beliefs. Finally, we move on to addressing and solving the root causes of limiting beliefs. The testing sheet gives us tangible and verifiable data, based on which we can see progress and set priorities.

Powerful combination of modalities

Root cause therapy originates from Australia and was created by Melissa Hiemann, the founder of the Centre for Healing, which started as an in-person addictions and mental health outpatient clinic. Through her own lived experience and various studies in mainstream and alternative therapies, she created root cause therapy, which proved to be effective both for herself as well as for healing addictions and diagnosed mental health issues at the clinic. Root cause therapy contains elements of Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), regression therapy, gestalt therapy, conventional therapy, Internal Family Systems, Hypnotherapy and breathwork, making it a unique and comprehensive form of therapy that views the client as a whole – mind, body and soul, to create sustainable change on all levels of being.

Hello, my name is Nele

Since I was little, I have been interested in human development, expansion, relationships and psychology, but life took me to university to study law instead. Having worked for some time in one of the best-known law firms in Estonia, I began to realize that such self-sacrificing hustle and striving for corporate goals is not for me. My body and soul kept telling me that I was in the wrong place and that life doesn’t have to be all about hustle and grind, that it’s actually possible to create your own kind of magical life that you truly enjoy. And not long after, when I had healed enough to have internal resources, I started to create this life.

I very much resonate with the wounded healer archetype. Having a background of chaos & wounding I have gone through my own long and arduous healing journey that inspired me to do this work.
